Following the model of “urban mining” we where given the task of designing one of the components of this utopian city. We imagined a structure, half house, half machine, located in a large salt lake. The salt lake acts like a thermal powerplant and heat condensator, while the house can absorb this generated energy by its inflatable, acuiferous fassade and supply it to the heating of the city. The two large greenhouses are used to grow exotic fruits.

In a short group-studio an urban concept was to be developed, tailored to cope with shortening resources and growing energy demands.
To cut down on building materials the model of “urban mining” was introduced: The large existing structures of a city’s suburbs are used as mines to build new dwellings. The large leftover negatives of the former buildings would then give place to large saltlakes that sould act as a chemical heat condesator for the surrounding city.
