Just like das Parkhotel, the CAPSULEHOTEL is not exactly what you would think of when hearing “hotel”. The two capsules, equipped only with a hammok, are travelling along the atlantic shore and are a total bargain if you are an individualist.

Music

“Designed in 1962 by Dieter Rams, the “Audio 1 Kompaktanlage” is a milestone of german post-war design. It embodies, even more than its predecessor, the famous “snow-white’s coffin”, the design ideals of the rationalist “Ulm School”. These sober paradigms of utility and matter-of-factness are playfully remodelled in the ReBraun”
Don’t know yet wich MP3 System matches your carefully collected sixties design furniture standing around in your overprized Loft? Have a look at the ReBraun, the 12’000 EUR price tag won’t hurt you, right?

Cars are shit, but there ar some exceptions: Meet the Aptera – you won’t find a greener car.
Unfortunately availibility is restricted to Califonia residents for the moment, but preorder anyway – they need your bucks to keep going.

Do you really need a phone? – pretty shure you do, but do you need a 6inch-color-multitouch-wlan-mp3-gps-flybyitself-remote-lightsaber-iphone-device? You don’t really need that; all you need is the RX-80, the creditcard sized gsm phone by simvalley. It’s abled to make phone calls, write sms, and wake you up in the morning. That’s it, what do you need more? And by the way, it’s just overly cool to have a phone looking as minimalistic as a calculator – for only twenty bucks.
Design

“Fits two generous workstations, while optimizing room use and legroom.
Angular, floating appearance due to outboard, fine-lined runners, carrying an apparently weightless, gracefully sculpted
tabletop. Artfully integrated top-opening drawers and inconspicuous cable management.
Featuring concentrated coolness at your desk.”
Up to now I believed Berlin was the meeting spot for all the design-wannabes of this world; seems like I was mistaken. Kinzo is of such a sculptural pureness that it’s questionable, whether one should really work on it.
Fun
The guys at fontcapture.com pushed out a pretty nifty tool to make your computer write just like you would. Fill out their template, scan it and download your custom font. Its oh so simple but oh so cool.
Apparel

Once again, J.Crew has proofed to be a source of outstanding textile design. As part of their new collection they have released some new itemes of their collaboration with Macintosh of Scottland – for example this outstanding coat made from water resistant fine cotton. The only thing keeping you from instantly buying this beauty will be the hefty price tag.

The guys at BRAMMO ar not only laughting at the oil dependent car industry by building ultra sustainable electric powerbikes, they are also making fun of the current car crisis in a clever piece of PR:
“Our plan is to retrace the route of the automotive CEOs who went to Washington DC asking for government loans. But instead of looking for aid, we’d like to present President Obama with a homegrown solution to the transportation crisis. And instead of flying in a corporate jet, we’re riding Brammo Enertia powercycles. We’re just a couple of guys who work for Brammo, but we want to show that there’s a better way to get from Point A to Point B. And we want to have a little fun while we’re doing it. So join us as we surf from plug to plug in a quest to meet Obama, fueled by nothing more than electricity and the kindness of everyday Americans.”

Bike

“By integrating the basket into the handlebars, the bike porter offers a transport option which works as part of your bike, not an awkward addition like a regular basket. It also offers an evolution in style. Most baskets are twee, woven creations or cheap looking wire or plastic constructions. Old-school basketweave is fine if that’s your thing, but what real choice is there if you care about how your bike looks, and your style is more Manhattan than country cottage? What if you ride a stylish single-speed but you also want to carry bags and groceries? By making the basket part of the bike, we’ve made life a fair bit harder for the would-be basket thief.”
Unfortunately its just a concept up to now, but the bike porter designed by Goodmorning Technology is really sweet. Combining the handelbar with a basket, they created a device witch is to take the bikebasket out of the mud of uncoolness.
